Stokes Croft Tesco Bristol Riot

The Stokes Croft area of Bristol in the UK was in turmoil as protesters who had been campaigning against the opening of a Tesco express store in the area 'welcomed' its opening.

Tesco is one of the giants of retailing, sucking wealth out of neighbourhoods wherever they open. The protesters, have a good point, as big business appropriates the food supply and controls the distribution and price of food, we become more and more dependent on them. The protest underlines the growing discontent with the lack of accountability these corporations have placed on them, and their effects on our communities.

Tesco appropriates the money from communities, and ships it out to share holders and banks, denying the communities the ability to create sustainable businesses which will allow communities like Stokes Croft to flourish, the demonstrations are just the beginning.
